Inside Holvi’s new look

If you’ve logged into Holvi lately, you might have noticed things look a little different. We’ve refreshed Holvi’s interface with new typography, more space and a cleaner layout. It’s the first step in a broader effort to make Holvi simpler, faster and more enjoyable for the small businesses and freelancers who use it every day.

To share what’s behind this update, we sat down with Aki Vilkman, Holvi’s Design Lead.

Q: Aki, what prompted this refresh? Why now?

A: Over the past few years, Holvi has evolved and so have our customers’ expectations. The existing UI worked, but it was showing its age. It felt a little too dense and visually outdated. We wanted to bring it up to today’s standards: cleaner typography, better readability, more breathing space. But it’s not just a visual update. With clearer hierarchy and improved contrast, the product simply feels easier to use.

Q: What are the biggest changes customers will notice?

A: The most visible updates are in typography and spacing. We’ve introduced a new type scale that improves readability, and we’re using Holvi’s brand font more consistently across headings. There’s also a new colour palette that gives us more flexibility. It’s brighter and more in line with our brand. Buttons, icons and small layout details have been unified, so the whole interface feels calmer and more cohesive.

Q: What comes next?

A: This update lays the foundation. The first step focuses purely on the visuals: colours, type, spacing. From here, we’ll move into a rhythm of continuous improvements. That means refining navigation, improving the home screen and making sure key tasks like payments and invoicing are faster to access. We’ll roll these out gradually, because we know sudden change can be disruptive. Our goal is to keep evolving Holvi step by step, without losing what people already like.

Q: How does this tie into Holvi’s broader product vision?

A: Holvi is moving toward serving more SMEs, but still staying friendly and approachable for solo founders. The new design reflects that shift. It’s more professional, but still recognisably Holvi. We don’t want to look like every other bank. We want to be clear and efficient, but also a little human, a little playful.

Q: What do you hope customers will feel when they see the new design?

A: I hope they feel that Holvi is moving forward. It’s familiar, just cleaner and easier. Ultimately, design should fade into the background. It should let users focus on running their business, not on finding buttons. If we’ve achieved that, we’ve done our job.

The refresh marks the start of a gradual evolution for Holvi’s product experience. You’ll see the new look appear across your account over the next few weeks, and more improvements will follow over the coming months. We’re taking it step by step, so everything feels consistent and familiar as we go.
